THE WAY OUT is a play about 1969, a time when the world was at war. And the U.S. was at war with itself. Young men were faced with a draft lottery that was basically a mandatory government-imposed death sentence. A period of free-love turned into an era of turmoil. It was a pivotal moment in history, but we have never really seen that history from the perspective that this play brings to the stage. It is through the eyes of the young people at that time and based on the playwright’s actual experiences living on a commune in upstate New York when the draft lottery took place. It is a perspective that is incredibly relevant today as it is reflected in the current socio-political climate and the divisiveness that has risen in our country over the past few years.

PUMP UP THE VOLUME - MTFEST UK Director
TURBINE THEATRE - London
“Jeremy Desmon’s book and lyrics preserve the blend of rancour and ribaldry that distinguished director Allan Moyle’s screenplay. But it keeps the compassion, too, of a film that didn’t satirise the students but seemed to really care for them. ‘All the great themes have been used up – turned into theme parks,’ sighs Harry in one of his diatribes. A cynic might say all the great movies are just turned into musicals. But this hourlong, no-frills, script-in-hand evening…suggests Pump Up the Volume could become a musical attuned to a post-pandemic teenage mental health crisis and a new age of disillusionment.”

TOOTSIE - First National Tour Director
The first national tour of the Tony-winning musical, Tootsie. A newly conceived version of the Broadway musical with Choreography by Tony-nominee Denis Jones and new material by Robert Horn (Tony-winner, Best Book of a Musical) and David Yazbek. Based on the original Broadway production directed by Scott Ellis.
—————
“Director Dave Solomon, who worked as an associate on the Broadway production, provides some slick staging which involves a Greek chorus that appears in some solo numbers to provide backup (quite effectively) as well as help move set pieces on stage and off. The cast he's assembled all does justice to the great material they're working with from Robert Horn's script to David Yazbek's musical score.” - Jeffrey Kare, BroadwayWorld NC
“Director Dave Solomon brings out the best from every single up-and-comer in the cast.” – Steven Stanley, StageScene LA
“impeccably staged and directed by Dave Solomon” - Kevin T. Baldwin, MetrMag, Worcester MA
“Director Dave Solomon paces the evening briskly, as it should be. The comic moments are allowed to play out with a good note towards timing along with a dash of farce…one of the funniest evenings in the theatre in recent years.” - BroadwayWorld (Buffalo Premiere)
“Under the direction of Dave Solomon, “Tootsie” goes from fun show to hit. The chemistry between the cast feels both familiar and fresh.” - Kimberly Rau, 99.7 FM NJ
“There is a seamless marriage of verbal one liners, comic takes, and awkward pauses that become a master class in how to do comedy right. The cast as a whole is a fierce and fabulous ensemble that knows how to work TOOTSIE to play in a big theater. – Brett Cullum, BroadwayWorld Houston
